Where We Work

Map of Africa - South Africa markedChildren do not choose the circumstances they find themselves in.

South Africa is often called a “World in One Country” because it displays a contrast between an advanced economy rivaling that of the developed world co-existing with another that has only the most basic infrastructure; and a variety of peoples and cultures that make up the South African ‘rainbow’ nation. — South African Government Information (2011). ‘About South Africa’

The South African Constitution and much of South Africa’s legislation addressing children’s needs is regarded as world class. Despite significant progress in fulfilling the rights of children, there are large disparities in children’s access to some of the essentials of life.

The quality of education for children remains a major challenge due to the long-standing effects of racial segregation, poverty, and unemployment.

Project YES Africa’s inaugural project will help to reduce the disparities by providing a quality education for children in Khayelitsha.

PYA’s programs empower children by expanding access to education, providing developmental resources, and increasing economic opportunity. Our goal, through education, is to lift children in South Africa out of poverty —and with them, their families and entire communities.
