What do you get when you combine thousands of volunteers, hundreds of service organizations and in amazing event? A chance to serve others and live out the dream of one of America’s great leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!
On January 18th, Project YES Africa (PYA) proudly participated in Montgomery County’s Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event in Rockville, Maryland, and joined thousands who came out to lend their hands and hearts to make care packages, appreciation cards and perform other acts of kindness for our communities.
At our craft table, volunteers worked with both children and the young-at-heart who created beautiful bookmarks with special messages. Each of these colorful bookmarks will be distributed, with donated books to a classroom in need. While creating their personalized bookmarks, volunteers and participants heard more about PYA’s commitment to education for all children.
From the main isle, we met hundreds of participants, and shared information on PYA’s current school project in South Africa. As they stopped by our table, they eagerly entered our raffle to win three special prizes, which are currently available in our marketplace www.mkt.com/projectyesafrica. We were honored to have Ms. District of Columbia, Ms. Teen District of Columbia, and Ms. Atlantic Coast, perform the drawings of the prizes at the end of the event.
